Geography
Udayagiri Grama Panchayat is located in the hilly region of Kannur district. Situated adjacent to the Kodagu mountain ranges, this area is renowned for its scenic beauty and abundant forest wealth. The landscape of the panchayat is characterized by a mix of high hills, valleys, small rivers, and streams. Although a large part of the area was once a dense forest, it was later transformed into arable land due to migration and agricultural development. The climate here is generally cool and humid. Favorable conditions for agriculture exist due to the abundant rainfall received during the Southwest Monsoon. Major crops cultivated include rubber, black pepper, coconut, arecanut, banana, and coffee. Manakkadavu, Karthikapuram, Thalippara, Arivilanjapoyil, and Poovanchal are among the major areas of the panchayat. As it is a hilly region, developing road connectivity was initially difficult. Later, with the construction of roads and bridges, the panchayat gained excellent transport connectivity. The natural landscapes, forest areas, rivers, and biodiversity are key geographical features of Udayagiri.
