Panchayat

Udayagiri panchayat is a body of Fifteen elected representatives of the people to manage the administrative affairs of the Panchayat Raj institutions. For a village panchayat, it is the main body that implements the decisions of the Gram Sabha and carries out the day-to-day administration. The main components of a panchayat are: President: He is the head of the panchayat. He presides over the meetings and supervises the overall activities of the panchayat. Vice President: He assumes the duties in the absence of the president.

History of Grama Panchayat

Udayagiri Panchayat was a hilly region reliant on agriculture. Once under the control of landlords and large landowners, this area remained a dense forest until the 1950s. Indigenous communities such as the Karimpalar, Mavilar, and Vettuvar earned their living through forest resource collection and punam (shifting) cultivation. Later, farmers from the Thimiri and Chapparapadavu areas cleared the forest and began farming. After 1952, migration from Travancore created major transformations in the socio-economic landscape of the region. Pattappara later came to be known as 'Udayagiri', and Kakkatholi became 'Karthikapuram'. With the implementation of the Land Reforms Act, land sales and migration increased.
